PhD and Postdoc positions are available in the Enshell-Seijffers Laboratory at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine in the Galilee – Bar-Ilan University, Israel. We use the hair follicle as a model system to study the interactions between stem cells and their niche. The mechanisms by which stem cells communicate with their niche are explored during the hair cycle when follicles periodically transit from regeneration to regression (Avigad Laron et al. Cell Reports 2018, Harshuk-Shabso et al. Nature Communications 2020, Aamar et al. Journal of Investigative Dermatology 2021, Sibony-Benyamini et al. Nature Communications 2023). The same model is also used to explore how these interactions are redeployed under non-physiological conditions such as wound healing, genotoxic stress, and chemotherapy. Furthermore, stem cell hierarchy and heterogeneity in a hair-follicle mesenchymal stem cell population are under investigation (Aamar at al. Journal of Investigative Dermatology 2021).We employ state-of-the-art technologies that include genetic manipulations in mice, molecular biology, next generation sequencing, bioinformatics, microscopy and histology. Highly motivated individuals with a strong interest in basic and translational research, which seek to broaden their understanding in developmental biology and stem cell regulation, are encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold a MSc or PhD degree in biology, biochemistry or related fields. Expertise in molecular biology techniques and mouse genetics are desired but not required. For postdoc positions, a strong background in bioinformatics is essential.
